Gary Ross

Design Director

Gary is one of the founding members of GX and for over 20 years has overseen the product design for design engineering. He has a unique ability to be able to translate a client’s rudimentary idea and turn into a commercial reality thanks to his training in design engineering and studies of art and design at the prestigious RCA. In addition he holds a Master of Design (M.Des) and is also a Member of the Chartered Society of Designers.

Working at the heart of the design team Gary oversees all the projects and encourages an holistic overview for each project and the cross fertilisation of ideas across all the sectors within GX. This unique approach has halved the design time for several clients, thereby saving them valuable time and money. Having won a Queen’s Award for Industry for building an ID card printer using a plastic H-frame, Gary used this concept to influence his design for a simple hair foil cutter for another client.

Gary is always conscious about the financial constraints some clients face when trying to develop their idea into a viable product. Where possible he encourages the product design team to consider bespoke tooling to help lower manufacturing costs and even will build in product differentiation to allow the design to patented and registered with the Intellectual Property Office.

When not immersed in design Gary is happiest at the wheel of his beloved Triumph Stag which he has lovingly restored to be a highly reliable road car.
